In these days of the music industry whining about how nobody appreciates a good album anymore, I generally tend to answer with “well, if you could put out an album with more than three good songs, maybe you all wouldn’t have shot yourselves in the face like you did.” The music industry has changed, and the old-school, album-centric way of thinking just doesn’t work anymore. It seems musicians have been divided into two camps: old school (whining about albums) and new school (working with how things are now). You can’t make things stay like they were by suing people. You have to say “this is the way things are now; how can we be successful in this brave new world?” When the game changes, you have to change your game. Whining doesn’t help.
